Dr. John Avant has been the pastor of First Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA since April, 2007.
A graduate of Baylor University, he attended Perkins Theological Seminary and received his Master of Divinity and Ph.D. in Evangelism & Missiology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has pastored churches in Texas and Georgia. He recently served with the North American Mission Board as Vice President of Evangelism.
John has written three books, Authentic Power, The Passion Promise, and If God Were Real. He co-authored Revival, and was a contributing author to The Believer's Study Bible and Evangelism in a Changing World. He has also contributed to numerous journals, magazines and newspapers.
His ministerial experiences include serving on: the Board of Directors for the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention; the Empowering Kingdom Growth Task Force of the S.B.C.; the Executive and Administrative Committees of the Georgia Baptist Convention; the Baptist World Alliance and the Board for Middle East Bible Outreach. John has led in mission work and church planting across North America and around the world.
Dr. Avant and his wife Donna have three children: Christi, Amy, and Trey. Christi is married to Matthew Watson and lives in New York. Amy is married to Joseph Daniel and they live in West Monroe. Trey just graduated high school and is attending college in Ruston, LA.
